Digital Media & Entertainment Challenge 2011 Results

The Digital Media & Entertainment Challenge 2011 organized by GET and held in TP has just concluded, and we are pleased to announce the winners of the competition as follows:

Champion - Nan Hua High School
1st Runner Up - Whitley Secondary School
2nd Runner Up - Ngee Ann Secondary School
Consolation - Chung Cheng High School
Consolation - School of Science and Technology, Singapore
 The competition was designed to allow student participants to exercise their creative talents to develop a 3D game using the Unity 3D game engine. Participants formed teams of 3 members to compete in the competition. There were two rounds in this competition – a Qualifying Round and a Final Round. During the Qualifying Round, the participating group submitted a game level design document. In the Final Round, the teams used the Unity 3D game engine to develop their games.

We are proud to say that the participants were motivated and passionate in game creation, as can be seen in the sweet fruits of their labour. Our heartiest congratulations to all of you participants!

The Digital Media & Entertainment Challenge is part of the National Infocomm Competition 2011 which is co-ordinated by IDA and is open to all secondary schools.

Rules and Regulations

Digital Media & Entertainment Challenge 2011 is open to all secondary school students. Competitors are required to design & develop a 3D interactive game.

There will be two rounds in the competition - a Qualifying Round and Final Round. During the Qualifying Round, the participating group must submit a Game Level Design Document. Teams qualifying for the Final Round, will present their game which is developed using the Unity 3D Game Engine.

During the Final Round, teams will give a live demonstration (should not last more than five minutes) of their 3D game developed using the Unity 3D Game Engine. The Final Round will be held on Wednesday, 21 September 2011.

Schools that wish to take part in this competition are to complete the Entry Form and submit it by post/fax/email or in person to the following address by Tuesday, 31 May 2011:

All teams must attend at least one of the Game Design Training sessions (before the Qualifying Round) on the 13 or 14 June 2011.

Short-listed finalists will be notified by Friday, 15 July 2011 and Game Development Training for the Final Round (Unity 3D game engine) will start after the announcement.

This is a team competition. All teams must represent their school. Each team must comprise three members.

Each school may send a maximum of two teams.

Each competing team must have a member of the school’s teaching staff as its supervisor.

Each team is only permitted to send one submission.

Qualifying Round
• Completeness of game design (40%)
• Entertainment Value (40%) (Degree of engagement)
• Creativity (20%)

Final Round
• Presentation of Game (20%)
• Technical Competency (20%)
• Question & Answer (30%)
• Popularity vote by audience (30%)

The Game Level Design Document entry (for the Qualifying Round) is to be stored on an individual CD-ROM (non-returnable) with the following information clearly labelled on it:

(a) the title of the game level design,
(b) the team’s name,
(c) the team members’ names and
(d) the name of the school.

Teams are to submit their Qualifying Round (Game Level Design Document) CD ROM by post or in person. It must reach Temasek Polytechnic School ofInformatics & IT School (IIT General Office) address above by 5pm, Thursday, 30 June 2011.

Late entries will not be entertained. Acknowledgement of receipt will be sent via email.

The Game Level Design Document must be the students’ own original work. Each competitor is to complete the Declaration of Original Work form. (Annex B)

Finalists can make improvements to their Qualifying Round game level design document and present the improved version during the Final Round.

The Organisers reserve the right to disqualify any school or competitor who does not comply with the Rules and Regulations.

The decision of the judges is final. Appeals will not be entertained.
